Official Opening

The Alexandra Avenue Health and Social Care Centre was formally opened on 20th February 2007 by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, OBE, Minister of State for Quality. The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Janet Cowan was in attendance to celebrate the opening of this brand new 'one stop shop' designed to meet the needs of the local community.

Services offered include Wheelchair Services, Health Visiting, Vaccinations, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speed & Language Therapy, Diabetic Retinal Screening, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Children's Services, Podiatry, Dentistry, Minor Surgery, Brief Intervention Counselling Services (BICS) and Contraceptive Services.

Background

The previous buildings on the Alexandra Avenue clinic site were in poor repair and under-utilised, situated in a relatively deprived area within the southwest of Harrow. The site is next to a school, with good transport links, the clinic offered limited services for the surrounding community. Roxbourne has the highest child poverty index score and is the sixth most deprived ward in Harrow.
